My Girl
My Girl served in World War II from 1939 to 1946 transporting troops, ammunition and stores to the breakwater forts and the Naval Base at Portland. ‘My Girl’ safely carried nearly a quarter of a million men by war’s end. Operating in Weymouth as a pleasure boat since 1947, ‘My Girl’ has been the subject of a television programme, magazines articles and the book ‘Weymouth at War’ and in 2002 was invited to register with the Historic Fleet of the United Kingdom No 292.
Enchantress
Enchantress was built in Canada in 1943 for the Royal Navy, and has spent all her working life in and around Weymouth and Portland. She was designed with a strengthened hull for working around cables and chains, and was probably used in deploying barrage balloons around Portland Harbour, as well as general duties ferrying troops and equipment.
