A Harbour with Centuries of Stories

For generations, Weymouth Harbour has been a centre of fishing, trade and seafaring life.

Shipwrights once built vessels along the quayside, fishing fleets filled the harbour each morning, and visiting ships connected Weymouth with the Channel Islands and the European coast.

When King George III famously chose Weymouth as his seaside retreat, the harbour remained the working heart of the town.

Today that story continues through heritage cruises that allow visitors to experience the harbour from the water.

Community Heritage

Coastline Heritage Cruises is operated by Weymouth Maritime Heritage Community Interest Company.

Our mission is to preserve historic vessels and share Weymouth’s maritime story with residents and visitors alike.

By keeping heritage boats in operation, we ensure that the harbour’s past remains alive today.

Dolphins in Weymouth

A Chance to Witness Dolphins in Their Natural Habitat!

Weymouth Bay is not only known for its beautiful coastline but also for the wildlife that occasionally visits its waters. Dolphins are sometimes spotted swimming in the bay, particularly during warmer months when fish are plentiful along the Dorset coast. Most sightings are of common dolphins, which are known for travelling in lively pods and sometimes swimming alongside boats. Their playful movements and speed make dolphin encounters a memorable surprise for anyone out on the water.

Although sightings can never be guaranteed, keeping a watchful eye across the bay sometimes rewards passengers with the unforgettable sight of dolphins surfacing and leaping through the waves near the coast.
