The Weymouth Maritime Heritage Community Interest Company exists to preserve, celebrate, and promote the rich maritime heritage of Weymouth Harbour for the benefit of the community, future generations, education, tourism, and skills development. 

The CIC will not only safeguard the future of the National Historic Ships My Girl and Enchantress, but will also work to research, interpret, conserve, and share the wider historic stories, traditions, industries, vessels, and people connected to Weymouth Harbour and its maritime past.

Its objectives include:

Preserving and maintaining historically significant vessels associated with Weymouth and the South West maritime tradition.

Supporting the restoration, operation, and long-term sustainability of My Girl, Enchantress, and other heritage craft.

Enhancing public awareness and appreciation of Weymouth Harbour’s maritime history through exhibitions, interpretation, storytelling, events, heritage trails, educational programmes, and community engagement.

Developing facilities, workshops, and infrastructure that support traditional boatbuilding, marine engineering, vessel restoration, and heritage preservation.

Encouraging the development and transfer of traditional maritime skills and knowledge through apprenticeships, volunteering, training opportunities, and partnerships with educational institutions and skilled craftspeople.

Creating opportunities for community participation, social inclusion, wellbeing, and volunteering through hands-on maritime heritage projects.

Supporting sustainable maritime tourism and contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of Weymouth Harbour and the wider area.

Collaborating with local authorities, museums, heritage organisations, harbour users, educational bodies, and community groups to strengthen Weymouth’s maritime identity and heritage offering.

Exploring opportunities to establish heritage interpretation spaces, visitor experiences, archive projects, and living maritime demonstrations connected with the harbour environment.

Promoting environmentally responsible approaches to maritime heritage conservation and harbour activity.

The CIC will operate for community benefit, ensuring that maritime heritage remains an active, visible, and accessible part of Weymouth’s future as well as its past.
